Charakterystyka:

The publication in the “Director's Choice” series, published by Scala Arts & Heritage Publishers, is a presentation of 44 selected objects from the collection of the Museum of Photography in Krakow. Director Marek Swica's authoritative selection has broken out of the title's framework, as it is the fruit of a collaborative effort by the Museum's team. Each object is accompanied by an interesting commentary introducing both the contexts associated with it and its history.

The diversity of the collection and the multiplicity of contexts contained within it constitute the main strength of this unique collection. It contains the names of artists very significant for the development and history of Polish photography (including Zofia Rydet, Jan Bułhak, Tadeusz Rząca, Fortunata Obrąpalska, Zbigniew Dłubak, Jerzy Lewczyński, Zygmunt Rytka, Kobas Laksa), as well as an extensive group of lesser-known authors, representing craft photography, or even anonymous authors, for whom photography was an expression of individual expression, a working tool or a documentation of personal history.

The Museum of Photography in Krakow, invited to cooperate by the London-based Scala publishing house, has thus found itself in the prestigious group of institutions presenting their collections within the framework of this internationally recognized series, alongside, among others, London's National Gallery, the Guggenheim Museum and Oxford's Natural History Museum. This is a unique opportunity to showcase the unparalleled diversity of the collection accumulated over the years.
